GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
COMMON NAME: Vesical blood fluke.
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Africa; Asia Minor; Mediterranean regions
PATHOGENESIS: Toxic irritations, lesions of urinary bladder and genitalia, cystitis,
occlusions of ureters and urethra, hematuria, eosinophilia.
HABITAT: Venules surrounding the urinary bladder.
INTERMEDIATE HOST
FIRST: Snail (Bulinus, Biomphalaria).
SECOND: None
RESERVOIR HOST: None
INFECTIVE FORM: Cercaria
MODE OF INFECTION: Active penetration.
SPECIMEN OF CHOICE: Urine (also feces)
