GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
COMMON NAME: Beef tapeworm.
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Worldwide.
PATHOGENESIS: Frequently asymptomic; appendiceal mucosal lesions with
secondary appendicitis, rare intestinal obstruction; moderate eosinophilia.
HABITAT: Small intestines.
INTERMEDIATE HOST: Usually herbivores, mainly cattle.
RESERVOIR HOST: Man is the only basic definitive host.
INFECTIVE FORM: Cysticercus larva.
MODE OF INFECTION: Ingestion.
SPECIMEN OF CHOICE: Feces.
