ELIGIBILITY FOR TRICARE
In order to use TRICARE, you must be eligible to use CHAMPUS, and you must
be listed in the Defense Department's DEERS (Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting
System) computerized database as being eligible for military health care benefits.

ELIGIBLE BENEFICIARIES
a. Eligible family members of active-duty personnel.
b. Military retirees and their eligible family members.
c. Surviving eligible family members of deceased active or retired service
members.
d. Wards and pre-adoptive children.
e. Some former spouses of active or retired service members who meet certain
length-of-marriage rules and other requirements.
f. Certain family members of active-duty service members who were court-
martialed and separated for spouse of child abuse.
g. Certain abused spouses, former spouses, or dependent children of service
members who were retirement-eligible but lost that eligibility as a result of abuse of the
spouse or child.
h. Spouses and children of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) nation
representatives, under certain circumstances.

CARE PROVIDERS
a. In general, any procedures and types of inpatient or outpatient care, generally
accepted as being part of good medical practice (except for those specifically excluded)
are authorized TRICARE benefits.
b. Hospitals, physicians, extended care facilities, pharmacies, and medical
equipment suppliers are authorized to be care providers, as long as they do not practice
