(1) Mission. To destroy enemy armed forces and to control land areas,
including populations and resources.
(2)
Capabilities. This unit has the following capabilities:
(a) Conducts sustained combat operations against any type of
opposing ground forces.
(b) Accomplishes rapid movement, deep penetration and pursuit over
great distances.
(c)
Exploits successes, including effects of nuclear and non-nuclear
fires.
(d)
Conducts covering force operations.
(e)
Conducts active defense.
(f)
Provides counterattack and maneuvering force.
(g) Operates as part of a joint task force in amphibious operations.
(h) Provides protection against antitank, artillery, and nuclear fires.
