Section II. ARMY FORCES
1-7.
ORGANIZATION
a. Army forces assigned to a TO include appropriate control headquarters and
necessary elements of the several arms and services. The latter consist of combat, CS,
and CSS elements. A theater Army has no fixed organization. A theater Army
organization is shown in Figure 1-3. These forces are combined in accordance with the
requirements of the mission and the nature of the operation.
b. Note that the only forces retained under the operational control of the theater
army commander are those who have a combat service support role. All combat and
CS forces are under the operational command of the theater commander.
c. The theater Army commander accomplishes his CSS mission through six
commands: a theater Army area command (TAACOM) a transportation command
(TRANSCOM) a medical command (MEDCOM), a personnel command (PERSCOM),
an engineer command (ENCOM), and a theater civil affairs command (TCAC). A
theater army communications command (TACCOM), a subordinate element of the US
Army Communications Command, is under the operational control of the theater Army
commander.
