Figure 6-5. Station hospital.
d. Concept of Operations. Station hospitals are normally attached to medical
groups, but they may also be attached to hospital centers. These hospitals operate in
more or less permanent facilities and receive all classes of patients from within their
assigned areas of responsibility. Station hospitals evacuate patients requiring treatment
beyond their capabilities to the nearest COMMZ general hospital that can provide the
required scope of treatment. They may also transfer patients to convalescent centers for
reconditioning and return to duty, or to USAD staging facilities for evacuation to the ZI.
6-21. FIELD HOSPITAL (TABLE OF ORGANIZATION AND EQUIPMENT 8-510)
a. Mission. The mission of the field hospital is to provide hospitalization for
temporary personnel concentrations in a TO.
b. Assignment and Basis of Allocation. The field hospital is assigned to
MEDCOM or a medical brigade and further attached to a medical group. It is allocated
as required to satisfy approximately 12 percent of the COMMZ bed requirement. The
field hospital may also be employed in the combat zone.
