The ear puncture. Hold the patient's ear lobe between your thumb and
index finger while puncturing the edge of the ear lobe.

The heel (or toe) puncture. Apply a thin film of sterile silicone jelly to the
site of puncture--this facilitates the formation of well-rounded drops and
helps to prevent clotting, especially when collecting over 0.5 ml.
Puncture the plantar surface of the heel (or toe) and repuncture at a
90-degree angle forming an "X" wound.
