a. Preventive Medicine Officer (AOC 60C). The preventive medicine officer is
a member of the Medical Corps. He is qualified by education, training, and experience,
to assist the medical authority in implementing the preventive medicine program. His
duties include the study of epidemiological problems; communicable, chronic, and
occupational disease prevention; and technical consultation in all matters concerning
preventive medicine. This includes medical defense against chemical and biological
operations. When no qualified preventive medicine officer is assigned, the medical
authority may designate a qualified Medical Corps officer, who, in addition to his other
duties, provides specific advice on preventive medicine issues. The preventive
medicine officer is the head of the "preventive medicine team."
b. Occupational Medicine Officer (AOC 60D). The occupational medicine
officer is a member of the Medical Corps. He is qualified by training, education, and
experience, to assist the medical authority in planning, directing, and supervising job-
related health programs for Army civilian and military personnel. On installations
involved in industrial operations, the occupational medicine officer ordinarily serves as
the preventive medicine officer.
c. Flight Surgeon (AOC 61N). The flight surgeon is a Medical Corps officer
who has satisfactorily completed the requirements of this specialty in accordance with
AR 600-106. He provides clinical care, medical examinations, advice, and assistance to
Army aviation personnel. In addition, he attends boards on flying evaluation, aviation
safety, and accident investigations. He may also serve as the acting preventive
medicine officer.
d. Nuclear Medicine Science Officer (AOC 68B). The nuclear medicine
science officer is a Medical Service Corps officer qualified in health physics,
provides professional advice and services on radiation control to appropriate
commanders.
e. Entomologist (AOC 68G). Entomologists are Medical Service Corps officers
qualified in entomological sciences. The entomologist provides technical advice and
services to appropriate commanders, including control of disease vectors, research and
survey investigation, and pesticide use and monitoring.
f. Environmental Science Officer (AOC 68N). The environmental science
officer is an officer in the Medical Service Corps, trained in environmental sciences and
other public health disciplines. He plans and administers projects and programs
designed to identify and eliminate environmental health hazards.
g. Sanitary Engineer (AOC 68P). The sanitary engineer is a Medical Service
Corps officer qualified in environmental engineering. He advises commanders and their
staffs on the environmental conditions of Army facilities, practices, and operations. The
sanitary engineer focuses on the engineering design of items such as water systems
