which either a single MEDCEN or single MEDDAC has responsibility for providing
health care services to authorized personnel within its health service area. For
example, suppose a HSR contains a NEDCEN and two MEDDAC's. That HSR would
then be divided into three health service areas. One HAS would have the MEDCEN as
its main MTF. Each of the other two HSAs would have one of the MEDDAC's as its
main MTF.

MEDICAL CENTERS
A US MEDCEN is a specialized medical treatment and teaching facility, activity,
or installation that provided general and specialized medical and dental care and
treatment for eligible inpatient and outpatient beneficiaries. It serves as a referral
hospital, to include laboratory support, for MEDDAC within its HSR and conducts
professional training programs as specified in its assigned mission. The MEDCEN also
