a. Director of Health Services. The DHS is the installation commander's
principal advisor on matters concerning the delivery of health care services and
environmental health services. Normally, the commander of the MEDCEN or MEDDAC
located on the installation serves as the DHS. If the MEDCEN/MEDDAC commander is
senior to the installation commander, the MEDCEN/MEDDAC commander will appoint
another physician to serve as the DHS. If the installation does not contain a MEDCEN
or MEDDAC, the senior physician assigned to the installation's Army Health Clinic
(AHC) serves as the DHS. The principal duties of the DHS include the following:
(1)
Investigating conditions affecting the health of the command.
(2)
Supervising the execution of measures for the prevention and control of
disease.
(3)
Coordinating the operation of the Oral Health Maintenance Program.
(4) Assisting in the development of the dental portion of the installation
(5)
Coordinating the training and use of US Army Reserve (USAR) dental
units.
(6) Advising the commander on the training and use of dental personnel in
Active Army TOE units.
b. Director of Dental Services. The DDS is a dentist who serves as the
installation commander's principal advisor on matters concerning the delivery of dental
health care services. Normally, the commander of the Dental Activity (DENTAC) serves
as the DDS on the installation commander's staff. If the installation does not contain a
DENTAC, the officer in charge of dental services serves as the DDS. The duties of the
DDS include the following:
(1) Investigating conditions affecting the dental health of the command and
advising the installation commander on the oral health status of military personnel.
(2)
Supervising the execution of measures for the prevention and control of
oral disease.
(3)
Coordinating the operation of the Oral Health Maintenance Program.
(4) Assisting in the development of the dental portion of the installation
(5)
Coordinating the training and use of USAR dental units.
