TIME LIMITATIONS
Line of duty actions have time limits. These limits are given in tables 3-1 and 3-2
and are covered in detail in the next section of this lesson. When an investigation or an
action related to the investigation is not completed within the allotted time, a resume of the
investigation is sent. It explains the delay and provides a chronology of actions, from the
time of the incident until the date the resume is forwarded. Only the final approving and
reviewing authorities may delegate authority to sign the resume. The designee must hold
the grade of Lieutenant Colonel or higher. Whether or not the LD investigation is
completed within the time limits outlined in tables 3-1 and 3-2, it has no bearing on the
outcome of the finding.
