CYTOPLASM
COLOR: Light blue.
DENSITY: Somewhat amoeboid.
SIZE: 8 to 10 mcm; more condensed than growing trophozoite.
VACUOLES: Usually one.
HEMOZOIN PIGMENT: Diffused; light, golden brown rods.
INFECTED ERYTHROCYTE: Enlarged; pale; even-size Schuffner's granules
numerous.
P. ovale
CHROMATIN MASS: Medium to large.
CYTOPLASM
COLOR: Darker blue.
DENSITY: Compact.
SIZE: 5 to 7 mcm.
VACUOLE: Singular.
HEMOZOIN PIGMENT: Gold; somewhat diffused.
INFECTED ERYTHROCYTE: Slightly enlarged; pale; coarse and uneven Schuffner's
granules; may be oval and/or fimbriate.
