c. The preventive medicine section is a separate organization within the
MEDDAC or MEDCEN.
d. The commander of the installation and the chief of the preventive medicine
section are the primary authorities responsible for directing the preventive medicine
section (program) at a fixed installation (MEDDAC/ MEDCEN).
e. There are five key elements to a preventive medicine program at a fixed
facility. Each element has its own mission and the technical staff to carry out the
mission. The 5 key elements support each other to ensure the military community
receives comprehensive health and safety services.
f. The five key elements are:
(1)
Environmental health.
(2)
Occupational health.
(3)
Community health nursing.
(4)
Epidemiology and disease control.
(5)
Health and safety at medical treatment facilities.
g. Normally, there is a section within the preventive medicine section for each
element, except for safety.
