d. The Division Special Staff. In addition to the general staff, members of the
commander's special staff are concerned with certain activities of the preventive
medicine program. Some of the special staff involved with preventive medicine issues
are:
(1) The engineer who is responsible for establishing water points. He may
also be responsible for insect and rodent control.
(2)
The quartermaster who is responsible for operating water treatment
facilities.
(3) The provost marshal who enforces the observance of "Off Limits" areas,
and the inspector general who assists in surveillance. Areas and establishments can be
placed "Off Limits" for any number of reasons, including those related to preventive
medicine. For example, a food establishment that dispenses unsanitary food and
beverages will be declared "Off Limits" to military personnel. Likewise, authorities will
prohibit soldiers from frequenting establishments where military personnel have
contracted communicable diseases.
e. Corps Level Preventive Medicine Support. Organization in the combat
zone above the division level is flexible. The corps surgeon controls and directs corps
medical support. This support includes the preventive medicine teams.
