DIVISION SUPPORT COMMAND

DIVISION SUPPORT COMMAND
a. The CSS elements of the division are assigned to the DISCOM. The
DISCOM has the mission of providing division level CSS (except for construction)
to all organic and attached elements of the division. This includes supply, DS
maintenance, medical support, and miscellaneous services for all elements of the
division assigned or attached. The DISCOM commander is also responsible for area
damage control in his area of responsibility and for the coordination and implementation
of rear area security.
b. The DISCOM (using the mechanized division support command) is organized
with a headquarters and headquarters company and materiel management center, a
transportation aircraft maintenance company; three forward support battalion (FSB) and
a MSB (Figure 3-1).

THE DISCOM COMMANDER
a. The DISCOM commander is the logistic operator of the division. In fulfilling
his responsibilities for implementing the division logistic plan he is supervised by
division staff officers in the same manner as the other major subordinate commanders
of the division.
b. The DISCOM commander exercises normal command authority over all
subordinate units of the support command. Although he exercises command authority
over the medical battalion, he is not responsible for the technical aspects of the
operations of the medical unit.
c. The DISCOM commander provides advice and assistance to the division
commander and staff on those supply, maintenance, and services matters that are the
operational responsibility of the support command. The DISCOM commander may
designate commanders of subordinate functional units to represent or assist him in
advising and assisting the division commander and staff.
d. The DISCOM commander is assisted by a staff (S1, S2, S3, and S4) that
performs the normal staff functions of advising and assisting him in the execution of his
responsibilities.
