3-12. DOCUMENT NUMBER
This is an eight-digit number comprised as follows:
a. When converting to a Julian date--that is the numerical day of the year---use
of the Julian date calendar is required. Using figure 3-12 (figure 3-13 is for leap years),
30 June 1989, for example, would convert to Julian date 9181. The first digit, 9, is the
year, or 1989. The next three digits, 181, is the 181st day of the year.
