1-16. WWR SECTION II ANCILLARY SERVICES, ABSENT SICK, BED CAPACITY,
AND BASSINET CAPACITY
a. Ancillary Services General.
(1) Ancillary services are those services that participate in the care of patients
principally by assisting and augmenting the talents of attending physicians and dentists in
diagnosing and treating human ills. Ancillary services generally do not have primary
responsibility for the clinical management of patients. Ancillary MEPRS codes and
Ancillary Workload codes ("X" codes) are shown in Appendix C. The Workload Code is
not an MEPRS Code. It is assigned to various workloads and counts for upward reporting.
The "X" codes are used for WWR reporting only. Workload reporting for both inpatient and
outpatient ancillary services "X" codes require manual entry.MTFs may not enter new X
codes in the CHCS. If the report is for an outpatient facility, only outpatient ancillary data
may be entered and edited.
(2) Item Code 04 displays a list of "D" and "F" ancillary MEPRS codes and "X"
ancillary workload codes. Workload reporting for both inpatient and outpatient ancillary
services, "X" codes require manual entry into the WWR. If the report is for an outpatient
facility, only outpatient ancillary data may be entered or edited. Both raw and weighted
values for the ancillary data are listed. MTF departments and workcenters must provide
the inpatient and/or outpatient data. All information must be manually entered by the
appropriate MEPRS or Workload Code. Table 1-7 displays the ancillary codes and table
1-8 displays workload codes displayed in Section II of the WWR, if data is available.
