The Medical Corps consists of commissioned officers that are qualified doctors
of medicine or doctors of osteopathy. These officers also function in administrative,
command (of medical facilities or installations only), and advisory capacities within the
Army Medical Department. The professional duties of Medical Corps officers are to:
a. Evaluate members of the Armed Forces to determine medical fitness for duty.
b. Analyze the medical and physical condition of patients.
c. Prevent disease and disability and treat the sick and injured.
d. Perform research to develop better methods of disease and injury prevention
and better medical treatment.

The Dental Corps consists of commissioned officers that are qualified doctors of
dental surgery or dental medicine. Like Medical Corps officers, Dental Corps officers
perform advisory and administrative duties in addition to their professional duties.
Professional duties of Dental Corps officers are to:
a. Perform dental examinations.
b. Preserve and promote dental health.
c. Carry out approved dental research, development, test, and evaluation
(RDTE) programs.
