(3) The CS aviation company of the aviation battalion and the assault
helicopter companies of the assault helicopter battalion in the aviation group have
similar missions and equipment. They have the mission of providing tactical mobility for
combat troops, supplies, and equipment during the conduct of airmobile operations.
They are equipped with UH-1H (Iroquois) helicopters.
(4) The attack helicopter company of the aviation battalion is identical to the
attack helicopter companies of the aviation group's attack helicopter battalion. These
companies are equipped with attack helicopter AH1S (Huey Cobra) and observation
helicopter OH-58A (Kiowa). Their mission is to destroy enemy armored, mechanized,
or other forces by aerial combat power, using fire and maneuver as an integrated part of
the combined arms team.
(5) The assault support helicopter battalion, which is found only in the air
assault division aviation group, provides tactical air movement of combat troops and
materiel in air assault operations within the combat lone, using the cargo helicopter
CH-47C (Chinook).
(6) The transportation aircraft maintenance company provides maintenance
for the companies of the aviation battalion. In the air assault division, a separate
transportation aircraft maintenance battalion has the same function.
2-16. THE MILITARY POLICE COMPANY
a. The MP Company is one of the CS units of the division. It is organized with a
company headquarters, four MP platoons, one security platoon, and a provost marshal
section (Figure 2-10). In the airborne and airmobile division MP companies, there are
only three MP platoons.
