the Oncology Service, the Infectious Disease Service, and the Pulmonary Disease
Service. (The Pulmonary Disease Service may be organized under the Department of
Surgery or the Department of Nursing instead of the Department of Medicine if
approved by the MEDCEN commander.)
d. Department of Pediatrics. The Department of Pediatrics is responsible for
providing diagnosis, care, treatment, and proper medical disposition to pediatric
patients; providing clinical and consultation services as required; conducting
professional training as directed; evaluating medical care given by the department; and
preparing records and reports. The General Pediatric Service is the primary service
organized under the Department of Pediatrics. The department is also allowed to
create two additional services--the Neonatology (or Newborn Medicine) Service and the
Adolescent Medicine Service.
e. Department of Surgery. The Department of Surgery is responsible for
providing diagnosis, care, treatment, and proper medical disposition to surgical patients;
providing clinical and consultation services as required; conducting professional training
as directed; evaluating medical care given by the department; and preparing records
and reports. The five major services organized by the department are the General
Surgical Service, the Ophthalmology Service, the Otolaryngology Service, the
Anesthesiology and Operative Service, and the Orthopedic Service. The department
can also create surgical subspecialty services. These subspecialty services include the
Urology Service, the Neurosurgery Service, the Thoracic Surgery Service, the Plastic
Surgery Service, the Organ Transplant Service, and the Head and Neck Surgery
Service.
f. Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology (OB/GYN) is responsible for providing diagnosis, care, treatment, and
proper medical disposition to female patients; providing clinical and consultation
services as required; conducting professional training as directed; evaluating medical
care given by the department; and preparing records and reports. The department
contains an Obstetrical Service and a Gynecology Service. It can also organize other
services as needed. These additional services include the Gynecology/Oncology
Service, the Family Planning Service, the Endocrinology and Infertility Service, the
Perinatology Service, and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Ambulatory Care Service.
The OB/GYN Ambulatory Care Service, however, is only organized if the MEDCEN has
three or more satellite OB/GYN clinics.
g. Department of Psychiatry and Neurology. The Department of Psychiatry
and Neurology is responsible for providing diagnosis, care treatment, and proper
medical disposition to patients; providing clinical and consultation services as required,
conducting professional training as directed; evaluating medical care given by the
department; and preparing records and reports. The department contains a Psychiatry
Service and a Clinical Psychology Service. It can also organize a Neurology Service, a
