(3) Centralized Materiel Service. The Centralized Materiel Service is
responsible for collecting, receiving, sorting, decontaminating, cleaning, preparing,
sterilizing, storing, inventorying, and issuing medical supplies and equipment used by
hospital personnel. No sections are organized under this service.
(4) Nursing Education and Training Service. This service is responsible for
the education training of military and civilian nursing personnel. This service can
organize two sections--the Nursing In-Service Education and Training Service
(concerned with orientation programs on-the-job training programs, Phase II enlisted
training, and continuing education) and the Nursing Specialty Education and Training
Section (concerned with officer Area of Concentration (AOC)-related and enlisted MOS-
related courses, military and civilian nursing education program affiliations, and formal
specialty education and training programs).
(5) Midwifery Service. This service is established only when authorized by
HQ, HSC. When organized, it provides direct patient care for the maternal patient and
her family in all areas of maternity, newborn, and family planning.
j. Department of Dentistry. The Department of Dentistry provides
comprehensive dental services to hospital inpatients including diagnosis, care,
treatment, and consultation services when dental services are an adjunct to other
medical care being received by the patient. The Department of Dentistry is an element
of the MEDCEN hospital and is not part of the Dental Activity. This department also
conducts professional training, prepares health care records, and evaluates the quality
of dental care provided within the MEDCEN hospital. The only service organized under
the Department of Dentistry is the Oral Surgery Service.
k. Department of Radiology. The Department of Radiology provides
diagnostic and therapeutic radiological and nuclear medicine services as required in the
examination, are, and treatment of patient. It also conducts professional training,
evaluates the care provided by the department, and prepares records and reports. The
department may organize the services given below:
(1) Diagnostic Service. The Diagnostic Service performs and interprets
routine radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.
(2) Radiation Therapy Service. The Radiation Therapy Service provides
consultation services for all potential radiation therapy patients and provides radiation
therapy services.
(3) Nuclear Medicine Service. The Nuclear Medicine Service provides
diagnostic and therapeutic radioisotope services. This service can organize and monitor
